Insight
Santa Lucia, the most important lottery in Guatemala, uses a big part of its revenues to support the blind community in the country through the Meritorious Committee for the Blind and Deaf.
That is why, it is normal to encounter blind people selling lottery tickets on the streets.
But there is a problem, many of them are scammed by buyers, because the country bills lose detail on their braille, which helped them read their value.
Strategy
OMD undertook ethnographic research and interviews to understand under what conditions blind sellers work every day to support their family. How could it beat thieves and prevent scams and how to survive in not handicapped-friendly cities. Sadly, they even have a harder time pressing charges when scammed because they cannot describe the thief to the authorities.
The agency decided to create a new discreet, portable and cheap work tool for the blind; one that would enable them to be certain about the value of received bills.
That is why it created Magic Lens.
Execution
Media was invited, as well as politicians and celebrities, because OMD knew the best campaign that could be done, was asking all of them to try Magic Lens and remind them that the value of seeing does not have a price.
People had a hard time accepting the cruel reality where blind people were scammed in an everyday basis. However, due to being a technological innovation, everyone was talking about it, making line to try Magic Lens and feeling hopeful about ending this shameful situation blind people faced.
